[12 Apr 2009|09:14pm]

Playoff matchups are all set:

#1 Boston Bruins vs. #8 Montreal Canadiens
#2 Washington Capitals vs. #7 New York Rangers
#3 New Jersey Devils vs. #6 Carolina Hurricanes
#4 Pittsburgh Penguins vs. #5 Philadelphia Flyers

#1 San Jose Sharks vs. #8 Anaheim Ducks
#2 Detroit Red Wings vs. #7 Columbus Blue Jackets
#3 Vancouver Canucks vs. #6 St. Louis Blues
#4 Chicago Blackhawks vs. #5 Calgary Flames

I actually like the matchup with the Wings. I would rather face Wasgood than Luongo, and the Jackets always forget how to play hockey when they have to go west, because crossing time zones is hard. Nevertheless, I predict Wings in 6. I hope I'm wrong, of course.

don't call it a comeback [08 Apr 2009|09:40am]

So, I've been really busy, what with two kids and all. But I needed to make time to post today.

You see, the Blue Jackets are one point away from clinching their first playoff berth. Amazing. I really don't see how they can miss out now.

If anyone is going to the Minnesota game on Saturday, we should meet up if possible. My wife and I will be going to RBar before the game.

I still can't believe it.

Jackets can clinch a p-word spot as soon as tomorrow with a win in NSH tonight (CBJ will win the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Prednecks if they both finish with 90 points & identical records), and then a win tomorrow plus a MIN regulation or OT loss at Detroit, OR a win tonight plus OT loss and MIN regulation loss tomorrow. If that sounds complicated, basically it means win tonight and gain a point on the Wild tomorrow.

Yeah, it depends on another game, plus winning on Sunday afternoon after a Saturday night road game is a tall order, but I'm glad this scenario is possible with five games to go instead of two.

They're at home tomorrow against Chicago, so go out and witness possible history if you can. And you might have time to take a shower beforehand, after committing the unnatural act of rooting for the Red Things in their game, nationally televised on NBC at 12:30.

Mason getting Bomb Threats [28 Mar 2009|01:29am]

My first impression after reading the article...

"Do what now?!"

A Bomb Threat? Seriously? And He didn't block his caller id?!

This is why we're not a serious hockey town... [04 Mar 2009|11:30pm]

Dear Channel 4,

When you've done the story on your sports at 6 and 11 tonight about the trade of LeClaire for Vermette? That footage that you're showing? That's Matthew Lombardi, whom the Flames traded to Phoenix for Olli Jokinen today. The big flaming C at centre ice in the video should have been a MAJOR clue. It sure doesn't have a thing to do with the Ottawa Senators. Morons.

No love,

a hockey fan

Pazzy, we hardly knew ye.

Good move, though. We get the top-six forward we need, and they get the #1 goalie who wasn't going to play much anymore anyway. AND we save money in the deal.

Does anybody else read Puck Rakers and the accompanying comments? It's worse than Yahoo sometimes. I swear, some people can never be pleased. "He plays center AND wing? So he's not a pure center, then? Lousy move!" "He's only got nine goals this year? We've already got a Manny Malhotra!" "Vermette's contract is a million less than LeClaire's? Oh, so it's a salary dump then." Never mind his stats suck because he's been on a horrible Sens team, and that a top-six forward is a top-six forward, even if he's not a clear-cut #1 center, which some believe are just out there for the picking. But really, some of these people won't be happy unless we got Ovechkin and Mike Green from Washington for Novotny, a 4th-rounder and a box of Timbits. And then they'd bitch because AO isn't a center.

But I also realize that these people are probably also the Buckeye fans who call for Jim Tressel to be fired for giving up the field goal in a 70-3 win over Asshead Tech.

My only worry is now we have no goalie depth. Mase shouldn't be playing every game like he's Kiprusoff or Brodeur, and if he gets hurt, we're toast. I was hoping we could pick up Martin Gerber off waivers, but Toronto got him first. We got that minor league goalie (a guy named Kevin Lalande from Calgary who's played mostly in the ECHL), but I don't see that helps us now, unless it's just a depth move for Syracuse.

Also, the Flames are now loaded for bear with Olli Jokinen and Jordan Leopold, relevant because we could very well be seeing them in the first round.

What is up with the Jackets' medical staff? It took them three months to confirm Leclaire had ankle problems and needed season-ending surgery.

I'm sure we were wondering why Steve Mason looked so tired...He has mono. Can someone get FNo on the phone in Russia?

From Sporting News [13 Jan 2009|08:23am]

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- In early November, Steve Mason was just another promising minor leaguer.

Now he's the hottest goaltender in the NHL.

The 20-year-old emerging star also has given hope to the once hopeless Columbus Blue Jackets, the only current NHL franchise to never appear in the postseason. (full txt here)

What are they going to do when they miss the tag line, " the only current NHL franchise to never appear in the postseason"?  I mean didn''t Chicago go like eight years between play-off apperances?   I can't believe we have the longest 'no show' at playoff record.

I am sad that this community isn't quite as active as it used to be, but I've been trying to think of ways to rectify that.

Would any of you be interested if I started posting player icons or articles from various news sources or anything like that? I know most of you are pretty busy (especailly the maintainer of the community) but I've usually got an hour free or so every night.

If not, I will totally butt out, but I thought it might be a good idea. What do you think?

Tonight's game... [11 Dec 2008|09:37pm]

[ mood | relieved ]

Glad to see Commodore get the tying goal after he looked like a rusty gate when Nashville took the lead.

I think that Huselius has now officially hit more poles this season then Jenna Jameson.

It was important to get the second point, and it was good to see them do it. Mason has been the saving grace so far this season. But they really need to get these games done in regulation. And especially when playing in the division.

As of tonight, The Same Old Jackets are in last place in the Central Division, and 14th in the conference, a mere point ahead of last-place Dallas. Stars don't play again until Wednesday, so we have at least two more nights of not being completely in the cellar.

If only the stock market would correct as such.

[ mood | stressed ]

Anyone else go to the game on Monday agaist Anahiem? If you did not good, it was awful. I don’t understand?

This team should be better. I can’t put a finger on it. On paper the players look fantastic, but on ice there are moments, but then there are allot of not so good times. I see bad passes to no one, or to a spot where someone should be. The break out of our zone looks terrible. No one skates it throught the netral zone? Then the dump in…ugh. If Chimera is on the ice he gets it sometimes, but other then that it is skated right back out.

Last Fridays loss to The Rangers had it’s ups and downs. First period looked good, but then in the second the Ranger threw this switch, and boom goals a plenty. That mythical switch is something the Blue Juckets just don’t have? Where does it come from? How do we get it? We need it badly! Zherdev getting the first star was painful, he was booed everytime he touhe puck? Why we traded him? No one booed Fritsche? Now that trade does not look so good des it? Yes Z has his issues, but surround him with a great team….POW!

Then there was the Minnasota game….omg? Do the refs, and the NHL have something against Columbus? Last year it was the “puck in the pants goal” This year it was the rick is to tall so he hit the puck in the net with a high stick? Come on?

This post tells it all And I agreed with all that he says…time to panic

Another season is over already.

I'm shocked Toronto didn't award Anaheim an extra goal just for the hell of it.
